As the community continues to adjust to life with Covid, Project Horse has moved to a mask optional policy while at Project Horse. This includes clients, staff, volunteers & visitors, regardless of vaccination status. 

We ask that if you or any member of your household feel ill in the 48 hours before you visit Project Horse, you communicate with your direct point of contact to reschedule your visit. Established clients should consult the client services policies for details on rescheduling appointments and cancelation fees.  

In an abundance of caution, we are still performing temperatures checks upon arrival to the property. Temperatures above 100.4 will be asked to reschedule.

Costs are dependent on the services.

Individual, family, and group therapy fees vary depending on the treatment needs and program. Our services are all self-pay and fees are due at the time of service or at the time of registration for a group program. Fees are NON-Refundable and no-show or late cancellation fees may apply.

Funding may be available to offset the cost of services to those who qualify. Please indicate a need for funding support at the time of inquiry.

Project Horse is an OUT OF NETWORK provider. 

Health plans and benefits vary widely, so you will need to check with your out-of-network therapy reimbursement coverage.   

Therapy services may be eligible for insurance reimbursement. Project Horse can supply a “SUPER BILL” to the client so they may submit it to their insurance provider. (A mental health diagnosis code from the primary counselor is required for a Super Bill.)

One of the many benefits of working with horses is that our services do not feel like traditional talk therapy.   

All our services are experiential and interactive and the relationship focus is on the horse and human. 

Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy services at Project Horse always include a licensed mental health counselor and a certified equine specialist but the true facilitator of the therapy experience is the horse.

Equine-Assisted Learning services may include certified specialists, licensed mental health counselors, certified coaches, or other certified professionals as appropriate for the group. Again, the true facilitators of the wellness/learning experiences are the horses.     

Individual therapy, couples, family, and group therapy sessions are co-facilitated by a licensed therapist and a Certified Equine Specialist. Learn more about our treatment team here.

Sessions looks different depending on the individual and their therapeutic goals. In general, as an experiential form of therapy, individuals engage in building a relationship with and participating in activities on the ground with a horse and a clinical team. Activities are varied but provide opportunities for self-reflection which helps with the discovery of internal skills in managing symptoms associated with one’s mental health diagnosis. Horses provide thought-provoking, immediate feedback and are always in the moment with the humans they are engaging with. This experiential form of therapy is so much more than petting a horse. 

All of our services are exclusively NON-riding. We don’t even have saddles in our barn or facility for any of the horses to be ridden. All of our horses are rescue horses and most of them are at Project Horse because they are unable to be ridden, but still have much to offer the community.

At Project Horse, we believe this is part of what makes the experiences at our facility so special. The horses and the humans are on equal footing and BOTH have a choice so the relationships built are truly authentic and based on mutual trust and connection.

Our facility operates year-round in all types of weather. If Project Horse determines that weather conditions are dangerous for travel (winter) or the temperatures will be unsuitable/desirable for humans or horses (winter/summer), you will be contacted to reschedule your session.  

We ask clients to dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable footwear. 

Our services take place outside in designated areas. In cases of inclement weather, we will contact our clients to reschedule if weather conditions require, keeping everyone’s safety is our top priority.

Closed-toe shoes or boots and comfortable clothing that is suitable for an outdoor environment should be worn. (No sandals, UGGS, Crocks, or other thin canvas shoes.)

Based on the season, we always recommend dressing in layers and choosing clothing that can get dirty. In colder weather, bring a hat and gloves. (It is always colder at the barn property so plan for that.) In warmer weather, bring a hat, sunscreen, and bug repellant.  Always make sure to bring a water bottle to your session!

Horse experience is not necessary to gain the full benefit from our programs and services! Whether you have been around horses your entire life or have never seen one up close before, you’re welcome at Project Horse.

To ensure the safety and privacy of all our clients and guests, we require APPOINTMENTS. Therefore, we cannot accommodate walk-in or drop-in visits.
