Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy
Mental Health Services
Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy is a unique mental health-based service focused on a growth mindset used to help navigate challenges and the exploration of strategies for wellness.
Proven to benefit the discovery of internal skills, this modality is ideal in the support of symptoms associated with a variety of mental health diagnoses including anxiety, depression, and trauma. It also aids in the development of social-emotional skills.
Project Horse provides custom equine-assisted therapy services to individuals, couples, and families. All services are NON-Riding and require no previous horse experience.
Project Horse offers adjunct psychotherapy services, meaning that ALL therapy is tailored to an individual, family, or couple based on treatment goals in conjunction with their primary therapist. Our services are intended to support the work that is done with your primary therapist. Services are available for individuals, couples, or families.
EAP services ARE:
- An experiential form of therapy conducted by a licensed mental health professional, a certified equine specialist, a horse, and of course the client(s) participating in the therapeutic process and activities to facilitate healing.
- A non-riding approach to equine-assisted mental health therapy.
- A collaborative approach with a primary therapist to amplify the treatment goals and objectives of an individual or a group.
EAP services are NOT:
- Lessons in riding, horsemanship, and how to take care of a horse.
- Hippotherapy, physical therapy, or recreational therapy.
Please note that during Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy sessions, clients can discover and explore patterns and behaviors (either positive or negative) in the client’s life. With the help of the horse, a licensed therapist, and a certified equine specialist, the client(s) process through self-reflection.
Horses can offer insights and a keen understanding of a range of human emotions through their responses and interactions. This can help clients process and practice new skills, behaviors, and thought patterns in our safe, private, and nurturing environment.
